ABOUT TRANSPARENCY RESEARCH

Originally set up with a grant from The Prince's Trust, Transparency Research has worked with a wide range of organisations providing research, evaluation, training, advice and consultancy services. We work at the interface of public policy, institutional development and hard-to-reach communities to provide effective solutions for service, policy and organisational development.

Transparency Research is employee owned and managed.

KEY TEAM MEMBERS

Latif Ismail BA(Hons) SFEDI. Before joining Transparency Research Latif consulted for various organisations including National Crime Squad, Serious Organise Crime Agency (SOCA) , Avon & Somerset Constabulary, East Bristol Youth Housing, Home Office, BBC Bristol, ITV West, Channel4/More4, Community @ Heart, Horn of Africa Forum and Brave Enterprise Agency. He had previously been a Service Development Officer and a Caseworker with Refugee Action, and his degree is in Development Studies from the University of East London. Latif is a qualified Business Adviser and occasional broadcaster, and speaks English, Arabic and Somali. You can see his documentary on khat use for Channel 4 here.

 

Alex Hall BA(Hons) MSc. Alex has previously worked for the Prince's Trust as Manager of Social Research and Evaluation, a Senior Policy Officer at Crisis and the Contracted Services Manager for the HIV Team at Kensington and Chelsea Social Services, before setting up Transparency Research in 2001. Alex has a degree in Philosophy from the University of Essex and a Masters in Race and Ethnic Relations from the University of London (Birkbeck). He takes particular interest in the development of database technology for research purposes and is currently studying Development Management with the Open University
Sue Lukes MA. A senior associate of TR , Sue has a background in service management, organisational development and strategic policy work, focusing particularly on refugees and economic migrants. She has a large network of community and voluntary organisations in this field across the UK, and is often asked to work as an associate or adviser on projects requiring expertise or knowledge in this area. She has pioneered and developed the use of community researchers in many such projects. She also teaches housing and immigration law, and has worked both in the UK and in Chile and for organisations in Ecuador, Nicaragua and Argentina.
Joanna Ensum BA(Hons) MA MSc. Joanna is a Visiting Associate Fellow at the UK Defence Academy Research and Assessment Branch where she is planning a doctoral thesis in Anthropology, and is a participant in a new MSc in Information Operations. After completing an MA in International Peacekeeping at the University of Essex, Joanna worked for the UNDPKO, EU, FCO, African Union and NGOs in the Horn of Africa and Sudan. Her expertise is in cultural analysis, narrative construction and strategic communications and she has conducted research into comparative military cultures within NATO in the Balkans and the US. She is currently writing papers on Key Leader Engagement with the Somali community and on Asperger Syndrome and radicalization. Joanna has made many short films for policy and educational professionals and uses film in qualitative research.

 

Adrienne Karianah BSWSA. Adrienne has many years of experience working for the Ugandan People's Defence Force, and is based in Uganda. A former abducted child soldier herself, she has been involved in counselling and rehabilitiation of internally displaced people, widows and orphans and resetllement of returnees. She has a bachelors degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Makerere University, and speaks 17 languages. Adrienne has carried out fieldwork for TR in Uganda, Nigeria, DR Congo, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
