About Transparency

Latif Ismail BA(Hons)

Latif Ismail is a former refugee from Somalia whose career includes Chair of the Prevent Programme Board in Bristol, Chair of the Bristol Somali Forum, Director of Transparency Research, and adviser to government and other agencies on security, community relations and migrant issues.

He has extensive experience working with UK Government on issues such as Counter-Terrorism, radicalisation of young men, and piracy. He advises a number of Government and international agencies including the MoD, EU Navy, NATO and the Foreign Office

He also works continuously with the Somali community in the diaspora (particularly in the UK) and in Somalia, facilitating inclusive cross-community dialogue and building social institutions by such means as empowering women to become active players, and small business development.

He is a Visiting Associate Fellow at the UK Defence Academy Research and Assessment Branch. He holds a degree in Development Studies from the University of East London, a qualified Business Adviser and occasional broadcaster.
